Group buying platform Pinduoduo has over 824 million annual active users and the highest proportion of Gen-Z consumers of all Chinese e-commerce platforms.
On 20 June, Pinduoduo released a report looking into “New Trends among Youngs Consumers in the First Half of 2021” (2021上半年新青年消费趋势). The paper highlights how the younger generation is looking for products that are convenient, healthy, and have smart features. This reflects their fast-paced, high-stress lifestyles and growing consciousness about health and fitness.
The most popular products among young consumers on Pinduoduo in the first half of 2021 were:
- Self-heating instant meals
- Meal replacements
- Healthy powdered drinks, such as soy milk powder or ginger tea powder
- Nuts
- Toys and collectables
- Smart appliances
- Chinese cosmetics brands
- Sunscreen products
- Camping equipment
- Traditional hanfu outfits
