China launches pilot for electronic driving licenses

Electronic driving licenses will be piloted in Tianjin, Chengdu, and Suzhou starting from 1 June 2021. On 10 May, the Ministry of Public Security announced that the e-driving licenses will be expanded to more locations in the second half of the year and will be rolled out nationwide in 2022.

Electronic driving licenses will be issued through the “Traffic Control 12123” app and are being used to prevent fraud or tampering.
