China’s night travel trends revealed

Tongcheng Travel, an online travel service provider, has released a report into night travel consumption trends during 2020.

The most popular destination is theme parks, which account for 45.7% of night travel activities. Young people (25-34 years old) are the biggest night consumers and make up 44.7% of China’s night owls. In addition, women prefer night travel to men.

The night economy has flourished since COVID-19 as Chinese Premier Li Keqiang called for street stalls to return, describing them as the “fire” of China’s economy. Alibaba also released a report about the potential of the “digital night economy” which revealed that 200 million Chinese consumers are active online from 8pm- 6am daily.
