Alibaba hits milestone of 1 billion annual active consumers

Alibaba achieved a milestone of one billion annual active consumers globally in the fiscal year ending March 2021. Of that, 891 million consumers were located in China, and 240 million consumers were based internationally.

The number of Chinese users was notably higher than that of consumers. Alibaba’s online marketplaces in China recorded 925 million mobile monthly active users in March 2021, a year-on-year increase of 79 million.

Despite facing increased regulations and a $2.8 billion fine, the Alibaba ecosystem generated a record $1.2 trillion in the 2020-21 fiscal year. China’s e-commerce market has expanded rapidly in the last year and many international brands have sought to open stores on Tmall. In the last year, more than 200 luxury brand and retailers have opened flagship stores on Alibaba’s online retail platforms, including Cartier, Farfetch, Gucci, IWC, And Van Cleef & Arpels.
