Temu becomes world’s second most visited retail site

The Chinese tech giant PDD Holdings ended 2023 on a high. In November, the multinational surpassed its main rival Alibaba in market capitalization. Now data reveals its cross-border budget shopping platform Temu also became the second most visited commerce site in the world last month.

According to SimilarWeb data, Temu had 467 million unique visitors in December 2023, placing it second globally in a tie with AliExpress. Amazon led with 2.6 billion users, while SHEIN was the 3rd most visited with 172.3 million. This marks a 106.4% surge in Temu’s unique visitors within six months.

Since its U.S. launch in September 2022, Temu has become one of the fastest-growing retail sites in history. Initially starting at a monthly GMV of 3 million USD, Temu’s sales reached 5 billion USD by Q3 2023, with a target of 14 billion USD set for the whole year and 30 billion USD for 2024.

Operating in 48 countries across North America, Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Latin America, Temu’s app dominates charts globally. According to the U.S. App Store rankings, Temu surpassed apps like TikTok, Instagram, Google, and YouTube in free downloads. Meanwhile, in the UK, Google Trends reported a 2850% year-on-year increase in Temu searches in 2023. Temu successfully secured a spot among the top five UK retail platforms.
