Chinese supermodel Liu Wen has become the first Asian model to have a Barbie made after her. The figurine designed in her likeness is part of the 2021 Shero collection which aims to inspire girls across the world to strive for their dreams. The Barbie’s style is inspired by the outfit she wore to the Met Gala charity dinner in 2014 – an emerald green tube top with an open back long dress.
Liu Wen holds many ‘firsts’ in China’s fashion industry. She notably became the first East Asian model to walk in Victoria’s Secret infamous show in 2009 and was the first Chinese model to feature on the front cover of American Vogue in 2017. She was also the first Asian model to make it onto Forbes’ Highest Earning Models list.
