JD launches smart retail stores for industrial products in Suzhou

JD has launched the first three smart retail stores that sell industrial products.

Stores selling industrial products (such as drills, generators and other machinery) vary from other offline shops, like supermarkets and daily necessity stores, because of the number of stock-keeping units and the demand for professional after-sales customer services. Therefore, the new JD stores will help to increase efficiency by digitalising businesses via smart management solutions, such as using electronic shelf labels. These will also enable store owners to manage procurement, sales and accounting digitally. Through the initiative, JD aims to integrate resources and provide more useful services for merchants.

The stores opened on November 23 in Suzhou. The largest one is 200 square metres and operates over 10,000 stock keeping units. The smart system enables the store to manage ten times the number of stock keeping units.
