On 20 May, Tencent Holdings released its financial report for the first quarter of 2021. We’ve picked out some key findings:
- WeChat’s global monthly active users (MAUs) reached 1.24 billion, an increase of 3.3% year-on-year
- The number of MAUs on instant messaging platform QQ fell by 12.6% to approximately 600 million
- Tencent’s revenue in Q1 was 135.3 billion RMB ($21 billion), a year-on-year increase of 25%
- The company’s gross profit was 62.6 billion RMB ($9.7 billion), a year-on-year increase of 19%
Tencent’s value-added business and game revenue in the first quarter increased by 17% to 43.6 billion RMB due to its profitable mobile game empire which includes Honor of Kings, PUBG Mobile, Peace Elite, and the recently launched The Magic Blade mobile game.
