Twelve new COVID-19 cases have been detected in the northeastern coastal city of Qingdao. The cases were tracked to recent international arrivals who were being treated in hospital.
As a result, authorities have decided to test the whole population of nine million people. The tests began on Sunday (October 11) and plan to be conducted within 5 days.
Authorities have responded in a similar fashion to other outbreaks across China where mass testing has been carried out and city closures put in place if necessary.
