India bans 118 more Chinese apps as tensions escalate

India banned a further 118 Chinese mobile apps yesterday amid border tensions between the two countries. The list includes the popular mobile game PUBG, games produced by Tencent and NetEase, as well as apps affiliated with Chinese technology giants Baidu and Alibaba, such as Ant Group, Taobao and Youku.

This is the latest development in escalating tensions between India and China. It happens just two months after the Indian government banned 59 Chinese apps including WeChat.

India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology said that the banned applications are:

“prejudicial to the sovereignty, integrity, defense of India and public order.”
