Tencent has announced that it has reached an agreement with China Media Group. WeChat’s parent company will officially be broadcasting the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, bringing its users videos and other interactive content related to the Olympic events.
Tencent Sports and the Olympics go back a few years:
- In 2013, Tencent Sports became the only internet service partner of the Chinese Olympic Committee;
- In 2014, Tencent was responsible for the construction and daily operation and maintenance of the official website of the Winter Olympics bidding committee;
- For the 2016 Rio Olympics and the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, Tencent Sports obtained the right to broadcast on the internet in mainland China.
