China’s travel agencies brought in over 710 billion RMB in revenue in 2019, according to a report by China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
Domestic tourism generated 275.1 billion RMB, while outbound tourism accounted for 214.56 billion RMB. Over 18.3 million visits were made to China from overseas, which brought in 26.92 billion RMB.
By the end of 2019, China had a total of 38,943 registered travel agencies, an increase of 8% year-on-year.
Travel has been one of the worst affected industries by COVID-19, particularly tour groups, so these figures are set to look very different when data for 2020 is released next year.
