With lockdown forcing people indoors, many in China turned to gaming to fill their time.
The number of China’s game users hit 660 million and China’s gaming industry saw sales revenue of 139.5 billion RMB in the first half of 2020, up 22.34% from last year. China’s original games, i.e. those developed in China, obtained 120.1 billion yuan in revenue this year, an increase of over 30% compared to the same period last year.
Within gaming, eSports has been one of the most popular genres and the revenue of the eSports market in China was over 100 billion yuan in 2019 and is expected to exceed 160 billion yuan in 2021.
