Lay’s launches Tsingtao Beer-flavored chips—who’s up for a taste?

Lay’s has teamed up with the Tsingtao Beer Museum for a bold new release: classic beer-flavored chips.

Fans say opening the bag hits you with a wave of beer aroma. Each bite brings malty sweetness, Lay’s signature salty crunch, and even a hint of fizzy beer-like finish. But not everyone’s a fan. Some netizens found the flavor downright strange—one said it tastes “more like a beer burp,” while another called it “beer-flavored vomit.” Still, these reviews only fueled curiosity, with many eager to try it for themselves.

The packaging taps into Tsingtao’s iconic look, featuring the beer’s bottle green, the brewery museum logo, and hop graphics—giving the chips a distinct cultural flair. It’s also becoming a new local specialty from Qingdao. In some local supermarkets, you’ll even find them displayed next to actual bottles of Tsingtao.

Lay’s has also rolled out other locally inspired flavors this year, including Xi’an Spicy Oil and Dongbei Guo Bao Rou (Sweet-and-Sour Pork). Each one reflects Lay’s growing blend of global branding with local Chinese tastes, and its continued effort to connect with consumers through taste and storytelling.
