Istanbul Airport has recently launched a “Chinese Friendly Airport” project. According to airport officials, a series of measures will be implemented to make Chinese travellers feel at home when at the airport.
The airport will offer check-in services and flight announcements in Mandarin, as well as digital welcome activities on boarding bridges. Hot water dispensers (it is more common to drink hot water in China) will also be available on both arrival and departure floors.
Accounts on Weibo and WeChat will provide information about the airport’s services and Istanbul. The airport enabled use of WeChat Pay in August, and was the first location in Turkey to introduce the platform. Turkey is trying to make itself more attractive to Chinese tourists through these measures.
