Douyin Selected is telling stories that don’t fit the script

In September 2023, Douyin launched its long-form content brand Douyin Selected to spotlight high-quality, honest storytelling on its platform. Focused on topics like food, travel, and tech, the Douyin Selected app serves as the platform’s mid-to-long video hub. As of September 2024, it had 15.28 million monthly active users.

Now, the brand is branching into audio. In partnership with JustPod, Douyin Selected has introduced a podcast series titled Selected Encounters, offering a closer look at the lives and creative paths of its standout creators. The show captures emotional turns behind everyday stories, revealing the real heartbeat of modern content.

The first episode features two breakout creators: a post-95s woman from Chengdu who quit her job to try 100 different professions, and a post-00s solo traveler from Shantou who’s gone on 99 solo dates—with herself. The conversation is hosted by Jinzi, head of new media at a leading fashion magazine.

From media students to full-time creators, from “overlooked daughters” to voices that now inspire others, these women are carving their own paths. They carry their sensitivity into the world, rejecting the mold of what a “proper girl” is supposed to be. Their stories challenge the usual labels—travel isn’t just luxury, and being a creator isn’t all flash. They show that life isn’t a multiple-choice question. It’s about experience. And for them, that’s the only answer that matters.
