Two weeks after Chinese designer Susan Fang’s return to Milan Fashion Week with her first solo show under her namesake brand, Fang brings her fall 2025 collection to Shanghai as an exhibition. Both the Milan debut and the display in Zhangyuan from Susan Fang were made possible with support from the Italian luxury fashion house Dolce & Gabbana.
The exhibition, titled Air•Memory, is being hosted at the Casa Dolce&Gabbana space in Zhangyuan (张园), a historical and cultural architecture complex on West Nanjing Road, and opened on 28 March. The exhibition offers visitors the chance to see the pieces from the Milan runway up close. The collection explores memory, love, family and emotional ties, paying tribute to motherhood. Inspirations are drawn from both china and jade ware from China, as well as oil paintings by Fang’s mother.

Susan Fang is best known for her innovative use of fabrics that incorporate 3D printing as well as the use of beads since she started her brand in 2017. Last year, she was named the sixth designer to join the Supported by Dolce&Gabbana programme under the endorsement of the Shanghai Fashion Designer Association (SFDA) and the National Chamber of Italian Fashion (Camera Nazionale della Moda Italia, CNMI).
For Susan Fang, Dolce & Gabbana provided not only funds but also fabrics, materials, show opportunities and publicity while respecting the designer’s autonomy. The design team and craftspeople, as well as business teams, provided support and an education for her, said Fang in an interview. With the support of Fang, as well as two Chinese designers in its Gen D programme from last year, Dolce & Gabbana might be aiming to regain the goodwill of Chinese fashionistas following its controversies.
