China’s virtual library to promote cultural exchange

China’s International Publishing Group (CIPG) has launched an international virtual library with the goal of:

“promoting mutual understanding between civilisations through books”.

The e-library opened on July 24 and includes 160,000 books in 33 languages from 44 publishing institutions and 24 countries. It offers a selection of books about culture, literature, social sciences and education, and aims to provide a new international channel to improve understanding about different cultures.

The publishing business suffered heavy losses due to COVID-19, and so, CIPG hopes that the online library will provide a new platform and source of revenue for the international publishing industry
