Nearly 60,000 people have been injected with China’s COVID-19 vaccine with none reporting severe adverse reactions. Although the vaccine has not yet completed clinical trials, it is being given to the general public, initially focussing on those in high-risk jobs, such as doctors and nurses.
The vaccine being issued has been developed by Sinovac Biotech. China currently has a total of 13 vaccines in clinical phases and is hoping to produce up to 610 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines by the end of this year.
China has mostly contained COVID-19 due to its immediate response and aggressive testing policy which saw 9 million residents of Qingdao tested in 5 days last week.
