According to the Apple App Store, Quark—an AI-powered browser developed by Alibaba—has recently claimed the top spot on Taiwan’s download list and ranked second on the Free App chart. The numbers back it up: Quark’s monthly active users in Taiwan have risen 53% year-over-year, with average daily usage exceeding 40 minutes, outpacing nearly all similar apps.
Many users in Taiwan have taken to social media to praise Quark’s AI features, which offer high-quality answers across areas like travel planning, health advice, real estate investment, and legal consultation. Quark AI’s “DeepThink” function is especially impressive. For example, if you ask, “What’s the fastest self-drive route from Taipei to Kaohsiung?” it not only maps the route but also highlights service areas with the shortest charging queues and warns about foggy mountain stretches. Ask whether it’s a good time to buy a house, and it instantly pulls up ten years of local housing trends, interest rate changes, policy shifts, and even calculates your mortgage and ROI (Return on investment).
Some users even joked on Facebook, “This isn’t AI—it’s like Doraemon’s magic pocket!”
Lai Yueh-chien, a professor at National Chengchi University, said Quark not only boosts efficiency in work, study, and everyday life, but also showcases how both sides of the Taiwan Strait can share in the achievements of AI development. Former Legislative Yuan member Dr. Yuan Tsai Cheng-Yuan added that Chinese AI products like Quark and DeepSeek demonstrate China’s growing strength and global competitiveness in science and technology. All of this proves that technology knows no borders, and great experiences have no limits.
