Auto Shanghai 2025 is scheduled to open on 23 April. One of the most hotly anticipated electric vehicles (EVs) set to be on display at the event was the Xiaomi YU7, the long-teased first SUV from the tech giant-turned-EV-disruptor. However, to many people’s disappointment, Xiaomi confirmed that the YU7, originally slated for a June or July release, would be missing Auto Shanghai this year.
On 17 April, less than a week before Auto Shanghai opens, Li Xiaoshuang (李肖爽), the vice president of Xiaomi Auto, posted on his personal Weibo that Xiaomi would be bringing its SU7 and SU7 Ultra series of EVs to the auto show in Shanghai, triggering immediate speculations. Li later replied to comments and confirmed that the YU7 would be skipping this year’s Auto Shanghai, and reassured netizens that it would “come when it’s in its best shape”.

One pundit claimed that the SUV was pulled from the show due to the fatal accident involving an SU7 in March. After the incident, Xiaomi decided to replace the driving assistance tools in the YU7, especially the lower-end models. Commentators believe that it was the right call for Xiaomi to focus on safety and quality instead of rushing the release date.
