80 million people are expected to travel in China between 19 September and 21 September, celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival. Mid-Autumn Festival is a traditional holiday in China when families reunite and appreciate the full moon.
To better welcome this upcoming boost in tourism, travel agencies in China recently release trend reports based on their bookings. Reports show that Beijing is in line to become the most favoured tourist destination of the festival, along with other popular cities like Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Hangzhou.
Statistics also show that two-day short-distance travel and day trips are the most common choices for travellers this year. Theme parks like Universal Beijing Resort, coastal cities like Qingdao and Zhoushan are at the top of their list.
The reports also reveal other interesting trends. For instance, Chinese people are now looking for luxury experiences more than in the past, with booking volumes in mid-range and luxury hotels up by 230%. In addition, young travellers in China, are becoming increasingly more interested in camping, cycling, and stargazing trips, as well as niche adventure sports like paddleboarding, yoga, kite surfing, and fly fishing.
