Over 50 billion parcels delivered by China’s courier sector so far in 2020

According to China’s State Post Bureau, as of September 10, the country’s express delivery companies had handled 50 billion parcels in 2020. This milestone has been achieved much earlier than in previous years. Last year, the 50 billion mark was reached in early November and a total of 63.5 billion express were delivered throughout 2019.

The COVID-19 pandemic spurred online purchases and accounted for an average of 200 million packages daily. As a result, year-on-year growth of the courier sector exceeded 40% in May, a record high since February 2018. In Q2 as business resumed, the sector grew by more than 30%.

The country’s courier sector is expected to handle over 75 billion parcels in total this year.
