GOODBAI hits up ITZY’s Shin Ryujin to test Korean waters

Goodbai Shin Ryujin campaign: Key takeaways

  • GOODBAI has partnered with ITZY’s Shin Ryujin on a Minuet shoe collection, led by an icy-blue limited edition inspired by her cats.
  • The campaign swaps the usual polished idol set for a rehearsal room, linking the shoe to Ryujin’s life as a dancer.
  • It follows a Seoul pop-up in June, signalling the Chinese brand’s growing interest in Korean consumers.

Chinese lifestyle brand GOODBAI has enlisted ITZY member Shin Ryujin for a ballet-inspired footwear collaboration that looks to turn a K-pop idol’s off-stage persona into product appeal.

The Minuet Tiptoe Shoe collection launched globally on 30 July. Its centrepiece is Cat Paw Blue, a translucent ice-blue colourway exclusive to the collaboration. A small paw-print detail sits on the heel, inspired by Ryujin’s two cats, while each pair comes with photocards and a handwritten letter.

The focus is on the performer away from stage lights

The shoe itself is designed around a familiar fashion reference point. GOODBAI says Minuet takes its name from the classical dance, while Tiptoe Shoe draws on both a cat’s light-footed movement and a ballet dancer rising onto her toes. Satin uppers give the silhouette its ballet-flat feel, while TPU elements add shine.

Rather than putting Ryujin in a high-concept fashion film or splash her across billboards, GOODBAI has set the campaign in her rehearsal room. The focus is on the performer away from stage lights: stretching, practising and moving with more ease than the sharp, high-energy persona associated with ITZY’s lead dancer and rapper. It’s a nice spin on the usual idol endorsement campaign.

GOODBAI are looking interested in a new demographic of Korean consumers

The Dao view: This is part 2 of a Korean expansion

The tie-up comes shortly after GOODBAI’s GOODEES IP held its first offline pop-up in Seoul’s Seongsu-dong through Korean fashion platform MUSINSA – a move that could be interpreted as the brand’s effort to deepen its presence among younger Korean consumers.

For GOODBAI, local cultural credibility may be as important as visibility. Korea is not a market likely to be won by simply importing a Chinese brand playbook. Ryujin provides a smoother route in.
