A little over a year after Hermès brought a runway show outside of France to New York in 2024, the French Maison has brought another show abroad, this time, to Shanghai. In June, Hermès hosted its women’s Fall 2025, Chapter Two show on the bank of the Huangpu River in Shanghai. Titled “Au Galop!”, the show is also the first runway the luxury brand has held in China.
For the collection, the artistic director of Hermès’s womenswear, Nadège Vanhée, took inspiration from the Chinese market, especially their openness to both fashion and technology. Vanhée said, “I decided to push more of this ‘outdoor meets urban’ concept, because I feel like Shanghai is all about this bustling energy where you have this ultra urbanism mixed with nature”. The focus of the collection, therefore, shifted from leather artistry, a staple of the house, to utilitarian outerwear.

Apart from the special location, the show boasted 800 guests, including celebrities such as Leslie Bibb and Hong Kong power couple Carina Lau and Tony Leung. Not only did the event bring Hermès’s heritage to the Chinese city, but it also paid homage to the lifestyle of Shanghai. Hermès’s revenue grew 13% year-on-year (YoY) in 2024, reaching 15 billion EUR (17.29 billion USD). Its apparel and accessories department earned 4.4 billion EUR (5.07 billion USD), which accounted for almost a third of the group’s sales, and saw a higher 15% YoY growth. With the recent renovations of its Beijing and Shenzhen stores last year, the brand is doubling down in the Chinese market.
