Recently, a new item quietly showed up on Goodme’s menu: plain iced water priced at just 1 RMB (around $0.14 USD). Many customers were reminded of a similar move by Mixue, which launched its own “1 RMB ice cups” last summer. That sparked a wave of discussion at the time and led to a flood of DIY drink posts using those ice cups.
Goodme isn’t just joking around either. If you order it, you’ll actually get a full-sized cup with a straw and a sticker—just like any other Goodme drink. On Goodme’s WeChat mini-program, the drink is officially listed as “Iced Water,” with default settings of medium size (500ml), “normal ice,” and no added sugar. So now, “ordering a cup of ice water” isn’t just something you say—it’s a real menu item.
In other words, Goodme has moved ice water from being a casual freebie to an official part of its product lineup. Unsurprisingly, the move sparked a lot of online discussion. Some customers found it amusing—one joked, “I just bought a 3 RMB bottled water from the convenience store next to Goodme!” Others welcomed the option: “I was super thirsty but didn’t want milk tea. This popped up just in time, and 1 RMB sounds totally fair.” Not everyone was impressed, with some saying water should be free. Still, others pointed out the convenience: “It’s perfect with coffee—I don’t need to buy a separate cup of ice anymore.”
To be fair, Goodme’s 1 RMB iced water isn’t anything fancy. No flavor, no special process. But the thinking behind it is clever—it takes a small, slightly awkward request and turns it into something you can easily tap to order. It’s not just about quenching thirst; it’s about making it easier to ask for something simple. This 1 RMB iced water adds another option for customers—and maybe takes away a bit of that hesitation.
