Kevin Mayer quit as TikTok’s CEO yesterday citing the political climate and the ban on the company in the US unless it is sold by ByteDance.
The resignation of Mayer is a sign that a sale to either Microsoft or Oracle could happen very soon, and even within 48 hours.
Walmart has expressed interest in teaming up with Microsoft to acquire TikTok because it is interested in developing the integration of e-commerce and advertising that Chinese TikTok (Douyin) has for US audiences.
Partnering with Microsoft to acquire TikTok could help Walmart reach omni-channel customers as well as grow its third-party marketplace and advertising businesses.
