Reports by Ctrip and Qunar suggest that COVID-19 is not affecting Chinese consumer’s demand for domestic travel during Qixi festival (Chinese Valentine’s Day).
In fact, according to Ctrip, people’s desire to travel during Qixi has grown 21% since last year. Bookings for five-stars hotels have increased by 12%, and demand for hotels near Beijing, Shanghai, Zhengzhou, Guangzhou and Chengdu airports also grew by 20%.
According to travel agency Quner, hotel bookings increased 40% year-on-year. Shanghai was the most popular destination for couples on the platform, followed by Guangzhou and Beijing.
