Several social media platforms in China have started offering a “local life service” to their users, allowing them to book food, transport and accommodation directly through their app.
Short-form video platform Douyin will offer third-party services from Meituan and Ctrip so that users can book hotels and tickets directly through the platform without switching to Meituan or Ctrip.
Kuaishou has also launched a “local life” feature which provides booking for local food, entertainment, shopping and travel services, which is being trialled in Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities. While browsing, users can view recommended videos for similar services.
Cooperation between social media platforms and service providers will expand the functions that sites, such as Kuaishou and Douyin, have and further their aim to become a comprehensive one-stop platform. By working with third parties, they also aim to increase convenience for their audience.
