Avène x Manner coffee: Key takeaways
- Manner’s RMB20 set includes Avène samples, while the RMB40 option adds a co-branded wash bag
- Avène inserts product trial into an established coffee habit while escaping the crowded beauty counter
- Manner’s previous Helena Rubinstein and Winona campaigns show that beauty sampling has become a repeatable collaboration model.
French skincare brand Avène (雅漾) has partnered with coffee chain Manner for a China-wide activation. Skincare sample giveaways are bonded with commuter coffee routines through a message of recharging.

Customers who pay for a RMB20 (US $2.95) coffee set receive an Avène sample pack containing a mask and serum. Pay RMB40 (US $5.90) for two coffees, and a co-branded wash bag joins the order.

Campaign copy explains the pairing well. Coffee wakes you up from the inside. Skincare works on the outside. This is framed as the process of ‘recharging’ from the inside out. Symbiosis aside, the smart stuff happens in what’s given away.

The Dao view: Coffee as beauty’s sampling engine
Avène has created an easy first encounter in a market where consumers tend to want solid reasons to engage. They’ve embedded giveaways into a routine, meaning regular visitors receive samples that can be used the way skincare products are used: in routine. They’ve also removed the beauty counter, boosting visibility by simply stepping away from competing brands.
Manner must know beauty collaborations like this work for them too
Manner must know beauty collaborations like this work for them too. It’s not the brand’s first. They partnered with Helena Rubinstein (赫莲娜) on a sample-led campaign in 2022, then worked with sensitive-skin brand Winona on sunscreen samples the following year.

They’re providing footfall while the partner brand provides an incentive. Samples increase the value of a coffee purchase without Manner doing more than organising and launching the collab. It’s really all about commercial efficiency.
Neither brand needs to build a new audience or invent a new consumer behaviour. Avène borrows Manner’s routine. Manner borrows Avène’s product value. A simple trade. And probably why the formula has returned in its third form.
