RIMOWA serves up Jay Chou and Fan Zhendong’s meeting of masters

RIMOWA x Jay Chou and Fan Zhendong: Key takeaways

  • RIMOWA has brought Jay Chou and Olympic champion Fan Zhendong together for their first joint campaign
  • The film draws on Chou’s 2003 table tennis-themed song Class 3-2
  • Fan’s bespoke racket case introduces RIMOWA’s new high-end customisation service

We’re backstage on an ad shoot. During a break in filming, a table tennis ball rolls towards Jay Chou (周杰伦). One look is enough for his opponent. He grabs equipment from a RIMOWA (日默瓦) case and begins an impromptu match. Jay Chou’s 2003 song ‘Class 3-2’ raises the stakes as RIMOWA’s new faces battle the pressure to finish first.

The campaign film is not just a celebrity mash up

Chou’s opponent is Chinese table tennis star Fan Zhendong (樊振东). The scene described above is RIMOWA placing him against their global ambassador in its latest campaign, Where Extraordinary Journeys Meet (交汇,非凡旅程). The campaign film is not just a celebrity mash up. It’s a smart way to express the inherent idea behind a product RIMOWA are highlighting (more on that below).

There’s a lot of behind-the-scenes lore at work. The film was released on 4 August, exactly two years after Fan won men’s singles gold at Paris 2024. Chou joined RIMOWA as a global brand ambassador in March that year. Fan, for his part, became a friend of the brand following his Olympic victory.

As celebrity endorsements go, Fan has developed an especially fitting relationship with the German luggage maker. He spent the 2025–26 season playing in the brand’s home nation of Germany, helping Saarbrücken win a historic treble before moving to Borussia Düsseldorf.

To top it off, the campaign’s clearest product moment comes through Fan’s equipment. RIMOWA’s Cologne factory created a bespoke racket case for him through its new Crafted-for-You service – a new option that allows customers to adjust the dimensions, lining, finishes and details of a classic aluminium case – an individualisation option that produces more than one million possible combinations.

Chou and Fan give RIMOWA two versions of the same ideal

The Dao view: Jay Chou and Fan Zhendong team well for the product message

Chou and Fan give RIMOWA two versions of the same ideal. While Chou brings cultural longevity, having remained relevant for more than two decades, Fan represents discipline, achievement and movement, particularly since taking his career to Germany.

The unifying of these two figures gives us a clear endorsement of that Crafted-for-You suitcase. We see Chou’s in the film. 716 stickers and references recognisable to his fans adorn the outside. Fan’s tells us what he does inside, with its bespoke compartment for the tool of his trade. Together, they demonstrate both sides of RIMOWA’s personalisation offer. One case expresses identity. The other is redesigned around its owner’s life.
